Local health leaders stress COVID-19 safety amid “second surge” of virus

Rochester, N. Y. – Monroe County health leaders are asking citizens to exercise caution amid what they are causing a second surge of COVID-19. “As of right now, we have more than 850 cases, more than three times the number of active cases we had just one month ago,” Monroe County Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza said during a briefing Thursday. Mendoza tied the rise in cases to group gatherings in recent weeks and a lack of COVID-19 prevention efforts on the part of those gathered.

San Diego County Moves Toward Dreaded ‘Purple’ Tier Of COVID-19 System

State officials reported that San Diego County had an unadjusted new daily coronavirus case rate of 8.7 per 100,000. The adjusted case rate dropped to 7.4 per 100,000, above the baseline of 7 which makes up the floor for the purple, or most restrictive tier of the reopening plan.
