El Paso extends emergency declarations into June, reports 8 new COVID-19 cases

Eight new positive cases of COVID-19 were reported in El Paso County Monday night and El Paso City Council voted unanimously to extend the disaster declaration and second emergency ordinance through June 10, 2020. Elected officials at the local, state and federal level joined El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego in requesting special consideration from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to delay further reopening efforts in the El Paso region on Monday.

Only two clients live in the facility for adults with disabilities, and both tested positive for the illness, as did four staff members. All six people have been quarantined within the home since Thursday, and staff drop off groceries, supplies and personal protective equipment.
